Workshop – AI Engineering: Creating Working AI Prototypes

Spring 2025

Students will work through a hands-on mini-project that brings the entire AI prototyping workflow to life: Starting with a foundation model API (large language model), integrating an orchestration tool like LangChain or LlamaIndex to handle prompts and data retrieval, storing and querying user-generated data in a vector database such as ChromaDB or Pinecone, and finally delivering an interactive interface via Streamlit or Gradio. By working through each piece of this stack, participants will gain practical experience deploying a simple, yet complete AI-powered application—reinforcing core concepts around model selection, prompt engineering, data integration, and user experience design.
