Compete against other SOC practitioners to identify multicloud security threats in several simulated scenarios created using WWT’s Cyber Range. The goal is for participants to discover, in a hands-on environment, the benefits of using ONUG’s open source “Cloud Security Notification Framework” (CSNF) (csnf.netlify.app) to normalize service provider-specific security notification messages in complex, multicloud threat scenarios.
CSNF Capture The Flag Event Overview
The CSNF Capture The Flag Event kicks off on day 1 of ONUG Spring and the AI Networking Summit with an 11:35 session in which players will be briefed on the simulated scenarios created by WWYT’s Cyber Range. The event will conclude with a wrap-up session on Day 2, in which winners will be announced and prizes awarded. Participants are strongly encouraged to view several online CSNF tutorial videos that will explain the technical rationale for CSNF and how to utilize normalized security notifications to simplify the analysis of multicloud security threats. Players only need a laptop to compete in the CTF and will be assigned credentials by WWT so that they can access the Cyber Range.

Players have the option of participating in-person, on site at ONUG Spring, or remotely, as virtual conference attendees. All on-site participants must register for ONUG Spring (below).

CSNF is designed to overcome the challenge of interpreting the babel of security alerts and notifications emanating from various cloud service providers and the proliferation of disparate cloud-based services. The lack of standard practices for security notification syntax and semantics places a significant burden on SOC teams when confronted with security threats that span multiple cloud services. CSNF is available today as a free download in the form of a “Splunkbase Technical Add-on (TA)” application.
About WWT’s Cyber Range
The operational infrastructure for the event will be provided by World Wide Technology (WWT), utilizing the company’s Cyber Range facilities – a cloud-based environment for security threat modeling. The platform includes a host of capabilities, including virtual desktops, identity and access management, multiple cloud services, monitoring facilities and cybersecurity tools. Active participants will receive an authorized log in for the WWT Cyber Range.
